A Place to Unwind

Before, this was an uninspiring corner plot garden which was open to the road on two sides with a large lawn and dotted with a few 1970s style conifers.  It has been transformed into a haven for wildlife and a place for my clients to enjoy meandering through planting and to sit back, unwind and watch nature perform!

The design is loose and organic with gravel paths, leading around a pond which has a circular deck hovering over it. Opposite the deck ‘Flora’, by Paul Richardson of Steel Sculptures, nestles amongst the planting and becomes a focal point when lit up at night.  Island beds have been designed – some slightly mounded – to bring height and create privacy from the road.

A series of simple steel and oak arches form a walkway between the pond garden and the Tuscan Hills inspired perennial meadow area.  A terrace by the kitchen has overhead beams casting dappled shade onto the terrace which is enclosed with a large bed of textural, colourful planting and has views of the pond.

Given the coastal heathland location, pinus and silver birch trees feature in the planting on the boundary.  Large swathes of grasses, perennials, seasonal bulbs and Mediterranean shrubs are planted throughout the island beds.

This garden was short listed as a finalist in the SGD 2022 Awards
